Three new smartphones from Nokia
Nokia E60 is a candy bar phone with a large colour screen, clean lines and an ordinary keypad. Since it can be used in GSM 900/1800/1900 as well as in WCDMA 2100 you can use it in most parts of the world.
The colour screen is huge by Nokia standards, 16 million colours and 352 x 416 pixels. According to Nokia you can chose to zoom in on documents or websites shown on the screen.
Nokia E60 doesn't have a camera. So even though it supports 3G you can't use it for video calls. But you still can make ordinary calls, conference calls, voice calls over IP and send voice messages by Push to talk.
And if you don't want to talk, you can E-mail. E60 supports POP3, IMAP4 and SMTP. You can also use it with Blackberry, Goodlink, Seven mobile mail, Seven always-on mail and Visto mobile. And you can receive and read jpg, mp3, ppt, doc, pdf and 3gp files.
Of course, E60 also supports ordinary sms and mms messages.
Among other functions you also find a media player, Bluetooth, Java, WLAN, Voice commands, calendar, calculator and a converter.
Nokia E60 will be released during the first quarter of 2006.
Nokia E61 looks a bit like Palm Treo. It has a large screen and a proper QWERTY-keyboard. Like E60, E61 supports WLAN, voice over Internet, 3G and Edge. And like E60, E61 doesn't have a camera.
If you are looking for an e-mail phone then E61 might be something for you. The support for Internet communication is wide, the QWERTY-keyboard makes writing easy, and the large screen supports 16 million colours and 240x320 pixels. By the look of it, the screen is a good one too.
The E-mail program can be used with an ordinary POP/IMAP-server, or with Blackberry, Goodlink, Seven Mobile Mail, Seven Always-On Mail or Visto Mobile. Besides it supports Nokias own Nokia Business Center.
All the smartphones released by Nokia today is Series 60 phones with Symbian OS 9.1. And that means that you will be able to chose among a wide selection of softwares. Several softwares are also included, among other things a web browser.
E61 has a 75 MB build in memory and the phone is delivered with a memory card holding
64 MB. Unlike E60, the card is a mini SD card, which means that Nokia finally has taken steps to abandon the old MMC-standard.
Nokia E70 resembles the phones from the 6800 series. Like the 6800 phones, it's got a two-part keyboard that folds out so you get a complete QWERTY-keyboard with the screen in the middle. However, E70 has got rather a few functions that the 6800 series lack. For example, E70 supports 3G, WLAN and voice over Internet. Like E60 and E61 it is based on Symbian OS 9.1 with Series 60.
The digital camera that is integrated with the phone can take pictures with up to 2-megapixel resolution and 8x digital zoom. The pictures can be stored in the 70 MB integrated memory or in the mini-SD card that is delivered with E70.
If you want to look at your pictures, you can use the screen that shows 352 x 416 pixels and 256000 colours.
Like the other Nokia smartphones launched today, E70 supports advanced E-mailing. Also it supports Edge and Bluetooth.
You can use E70 to make calls over the Internet. E70 includes software for voice over IP via SIP. It also includes software to view and edit word, excel, powerpoint and pdf files and options for unzipping compressed files.
All the above mentioned phones will be released in the first quarter of 2006. The estimated prize will be somewhere between 350 and 450 Euro, plus tax.
