Nokia launches 5500 Sport phone - a new durable mobile phone

The new durable phone by Nokia is called 5500 Sport. Except for the splash- and shock absorbent shell it's equipped with a 2-megapixel camera and several new handy features. Among other things you can get your sms read out to you when you are out jogging- or riding your bike.

The main principle with 5500 Sport is of course its shock, water and dust resistant. The phone has stainless steal casing and rubber grips. The weight is moderately 103 g.

The feature to get the messages read out is a new technique and is called ''text-to-speech".

Nokia 5500 Sports, contains serveral news compared to its precursors in the category durable mobile phones (Nokia 5140i). Among other things the display is considerably better with its resolution of 208 x 208 pixels and 262000 colours.

Nokia 5500 Sport is also equipped with a 2 megapixel camera at the back of the phone. It handles stills, and can be used as a video camera, but low resolution (176 x 144 pixels - less than 0,1 megapixel).

The system in Nokia 5500 Sport is Symbian Series 60. It means that you are able to install the program in the phone by yourself afterwards. From the beginning there are various sport features and among other things a pedometer. The pedometer can after adjustment even tell the length of your jogging round as well as the walk length and the speed.

Headphones are included when purchasing Nokia 5500 Sport, which can be used as hands free during conversation. The phone has even a built-in FM-radio and a mp3-player. There is a slot for a memory card up to 1 gigabyte of memory, but that is not included.

Nokia 5500 Sport is equipped with Bluetooth and a Ir-port. It can connect to the computer and by using the software Nokia PC suite it can synchronize the calendar and the address book with Outlook. It is scheduled to sprint into stores during the summer (3rd quarter) of 2006 and is expected to retail for around 300 EUR before taxes and subsidies.
