M600 - The new keyboard phone from Sony Ericsson

When Mobil wrote about M600 earlier we supposed that the phone was going to get the designation P970. The M600 will probably cost around 5000 SEK and will be on the market during the second quarter this year. It's a keyboard-phone, but unlike earlier models from Sony Ericsson it has no flip, but the keyboard is located in the same place as on HP Ipaq 6515 and other phones like it. It's not a real qwerty-keyboard, but there are two letters on each key.

Sony Ericsson named M600 a unit for telephony and messaging. It supposed to suit professional users that need to send email in a quick and smooth mode wherever they are. The phone supports serveral suppliers of email.

The display is 2,6 inches and have 262 144 colours. It has QVGA-resolution, which means 240 x 320 pixels. The display is a touch screen and if you choose not to use the keyboard there is a function that allows handwriting recognition. The internal memory hold 80 mb in the M600. The phone can be used as a usb memory. The memory can be extended with a memorystick, type Memory Stick Micro.

The fact that M600 lacks a camera proofs it's purpose of use as a phone for professional users. It's obvious that Sony Ericsson with M600 wants to compete with Nokia E61, Moto Q and other so called messaging phones. It's a pity though, with it's lack of w-lan, which P990 has. The typical users för this phone would have appriciated w-lan, but it's certainly a sort of adjustment were Sony Ericsson choose the cheaper of two alternatives.

Apart from email program M600 has a browser for html-pages and application for RSS. It's also an application for reading and editing Word, Excel and Powerpoint files included. Another application makes it possible to read PDF file. M600 has a vpn-client for safe connections to the company network.
